Vangie Williams Statement on Kavanaugh Confirmation Hearings

Fredericksburg, Va. – Democratic candidate Vangie Williams (VA-01) released the following statement on the Brett Kavanaugh hearings and Kavanaugh’s potential appointment to the United States Supreme Court:

“I believe there needs to be a full FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations made by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and the other women who have come forward to make claims against Judge Kavanaugh.

“It is important that we remember that Judge Kavanaugh is, essentially, in the midst of the interview process for a lifetime appointment to the highest court in our nation. Since he is not on trial, the standard of proof ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’ does not apply. Instead, however, as he is going through the interview process, information from colleagues and others familiar with him concerning his reputation and fitness for the job should most certainly be taken into consideration. This, along with the fact that Kavanaugh’s votes as a Supreme Court Justice, if appointed, will significantly affect the lives of Americans – including sexual assault survivors – is why there needs to be an FBI investigation.
