Charles Simmons, a retired police officer and Marine Corps veteran, announced his endorsement today of Vangie Williams for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District. Simmons endorsement is part of a growing list of citizens who support Williams’ goal of being the people’s congresswoman.
“I know about serving my community and my country as a retired police officer and Marine Corps veteran,” said Simmons. “When I go to the voting booth, I want somebody that holds the same values as me – a strong work ethic, compassion, moral leadership and honesty.”
“I believe Vangie to be that person to serve the people of the first district, and all people of America,” added Simmons.
“Charles’ support lets me know that people want a representative who shares the same values and will fight for them on Capitol Hill,” said Williams. “There’s no “us versus them” when it comes to making sure we have good jobs in the district, public safety and a strong education system. We must put petty politics aside and put people first.”
Simmons lives in King George County and is concerned about issues impacting veterans and military families, building a strong economy and keeping our communities safe.
Williams is proposing her INVEST tax initiative to exempt the first $50,000 of earnings of federal income tax for veterans, enlisted military families, safety officers and teachers, providing an immediate boost of up to $6,000 a year. The INVEST plan will also help recruit and retain educators and first responders who are facing critical staffing shortages.
“Too many of our hometown heroes have multiple jobs to pay the bills. They rely on public funding, our tax dollars, to feed their families,” Williams pointed out. “Instead of using the tax code to benefit the wealthy, let’s use it to fix some of the serious problems facing our communities.”
Williams is committed to fighting for an economy that works for everyone and ensuring families in the 1st District have access to world-class healthcare. Through investments in education and transportation, and by reinvesting in our communities, Williams aims to bring jobs to the 1st District and help our hometown heroes.
The groundswell of support for Williams is a sign that people want new leadership in Washington. Williams has received endorsements from members of the Senate of Virginia, the House of Delegates, national organizations, community leaders and citizens. Voters will make their choice on the Democratic candidate to face Rob Wittman in the general election in the primary election on June 12.
