Steven Specht, an Air Force veteran and former congressional candidate (FL-01) announced his endorsement today of Vangie Williams for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District. Specht’s endorsement is part of a growing list of citizens who support Williams’ goal of being the people’s congresswoman.
“I have run for Congress in an extremely red district and it takes an incredible candidate to galvanize the base and attract Republicans to vote for you,” said Specht. “Vangie has this amazing ability to connect with voters regardless of political party. She’s a proven leader that knows how to get things done and bring people together.”
“Steven’s support is a clear indication that people want a representative who will listen to their issues and fight for them on Capitol Hill,” said Williams. “There’s no “us versus them” when it comes to ensuring our kids receive a great education and families have access to world-class healthcare. We must put petty politics aside and put people first.”
Specht, an attorney and father of two, lives in Stafford County and is concerned about issues impacting veterans and military families. He also believes that education is key to a strong workforce and economy.
“I’m a veteran and my wife is an active duty physician assistant at Quantico,” said Specht. “Those who enlist in our military are underpaid and overworked, and don’t make enough money for the service they perform. The same goes for law enforcement, firefighters and even our teachers. Vangie is the only candidate int this race that’s addressing these issues with real policy solutions.”
Williams is proposing her INVEST tax initiative to exempt the first $50,000 of earnings of federal income tax for veterans, enlisted military families, safety officers and teachers, providing an immediate boost of up to $6,000 a year. The INVEST plan will also help recruit and retain educators and first responders who are facing critical staffing shortages.
“Too many of our hometown heroes have multiple jobs to pay the bills or rely on public funding to feed their families,” Williams pointed out. “Instead of using the tax code to benefit the wealthy, let’s use it to fix some of the serious problems facing our communities.”
“Investing in people – the hardworking men and women of the 1st District – is the only way Americans can get a fair chance at success,” said Williams.
