KING GEORGE, Va. – Augusta Christensen joins Vangie Williams for Congress as its new field director. Christensen will lead the campaign’s voter strategy, messaging and operations on the ground.
“As we’ve seen from the Democratic primary last month, Vangie has a very strong ground game and grassroots support,” said Christensen. “She’s able to engage voters across the district because she has the right message and team to win in November. I’m happy to join a team that understands the importance of having strong field operations, and look forward to working with our volunteers, activist groups and the VA Victory coordinated campaign.”
The 1st Congressional District of Virginia includes all or part of 19 counties and one city in the central-eastern portion of the state. Williams won 16 of 20 voting jurisdictions in the Democratic primary on June 12. A major part of her success was attributed to canvassing, phone banking and direct mail.
“I’m excited to have Augusta on board to direct our field operations,” said Williams. “The 1st District is a large area to cover. We have voters in Central Virginia, the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula with issues that impact each of these communities in a different way. It’s important we have a field team that can reach and talk to people in every part of the district.”
“Augusta will take what we were able to accomplish in the primary to the next level,” Williams noted.
Christensen was the field director for Susan Platt, Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor of Virginia in 2017. She has worked as field staff on races in New York, Maryland and Virginia, and has worked exclusively in the last five years on getting more women elected to office.
Williams is a strategic planner that solves problems for the federal government. A long-time resident of King George, Va., she is running a grassroots, common sense campaign that puts people before greed-driven politics. Williams will face Republican congressman Rob Wittman in November.
